Anton Ludwig (* 16th March 1798 in Halbendorf at Glatz , county Glatz , province of Silesia ; † 1. September 1869 in Ebersdorf , district Habelschwerdt ) was a German theologian and 1846-1869 United dean and vicar of up to 1972 Archdiocese of Prague belonging County Bald .

Life

Anton Ludwig was the son of a carter . After graduating from the Royal High School in Glatz , he studied theology at the University of Wroclaw with financial support from the Ursulines . On October 20, 1822, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Prague by the Wroclaw Auxiliary Bishop Emanuel von Schimonsky . He then worked for two years as a chaplain in Eckersdorf and at the same time as a tutor for the children of Count von Magnis . He was then called to Habelschwerdt by the Grand Dean Joseph Knauer , who later became Bishop of Breslau, where he later took over the office of Secretary of the Dean. In 1833 he became pastor of Ebersdorf. After the death of the great dean Johann Joseph Harbig, he was assigned the office of dean and vicariate on June 15, 1846, by the Archbishop of Prague Alois Joseph Schrenck von Notzing as vicar and by the Prussian government as the great dean of the County of Glatz .

Anton Ludwig's term of office fell during the German Revolution of 1848/1849 . He strengthened religious life by training clergymen and holding popular missions . He also campaigned for the renewal of religious life, since all monasteries had been dissolved by the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773 and the secularization in 1810. In 1857 the papal right was confirmed for him and his successors to wear the pectoral cross and for him personally the inful . For health reasons he was relieved of his position as grand dean at his own request in 1868, but still kept the parish of Ebersdorf. His successor in the office of Grand Dean was Franz Brand on April 2, 1869 . A few months later, Anton Ludwig died on September 1, 1869. On September 4, 1869, he was buried in the churchyard in Ebersdorf.
