Antonello Crescenzio , also Antonello Panormita or Antonello da Palermo (* 1467 in Palermo , † 1542 ibid) was an Italian Renaissance painter in Sicily .

Life

Crescenzio is usually equated with Antonello Panormita . Nothing is known about his education and life. Probably born in Palermo, he came to Syracuse at a young age , where he probably married. His work was initially influenced by the Flemish art of Antonello da Messina , later he approached the artistic style of Raphael .

After working in Syracuse, Gela and Polizzi Generosa , he worked in 1503 in the Cappella Santa Cristina of the Cathedral of Palermo . He then painted the organ front of the Chiesa Madre in Corleone . This is followed in Palermo by 80 paintings for the ceiling of S. Maria la Nuova and one painting for the main altar of the Chiesa del Carmine. Crescenzio also produced frescoes in the Palazzo Chiaramonte in Palermo.
