location

Brunnhaus Obernesselgraben with high reserve

Since the beginning of the 17th century - long before the road tunnel and the site shooting range were built - there were two wells of the brine pipeline Bad Reichenhall - Traunstein - Rosenheim in the Nesselgraben . Pumps driven by water power transported the brine from the salt works in Bad Reichenhall up to a raised tank, from where it, using the natural gradient, flowed through wooden dykes to the next well. In the Nesselgraben, however, the difference in height was too great, which is why two wells here, one behind the other, provided for further transport to the branch saline in Traunstein. After the brine pipeline was shut down, most of the wells were demolished, and there are no more traces of the system in the Nesselgraben.

Today the chapel is located roughly where the elevated tank of the Obernesselgraben well used to be, directly above the Antonibergtunnel. The path forks here, the brine pipeline path continues to Weißbach on the Alpine Road , the second hiking path leads over the Pfenniglandl to the Müllnerberg or over the Weinkaser to Schneizlreuth .

history

In maps from around 1800 there was already a wooden chapel here, which is marked as the Antoni chapel .

Today's chapel was rebuilt by Brunnwart Maximilian Strobel and his wife in 1827 in honor of St. Anthony . The building was renovated in 1957 and the roof was renewed in 2000.

In the 1960s, the statue of Antonius was stolen during a break-in. It was replaced by a plaster figure. The wooden tabernacle is in the local history museum in Bad Reichenhall. The tabernacle bears the name of the builder and the date of construction as an inscription.
