Antonio Bioni (* 1698 in Venice , † 1739 in Vienna or Italy ) was an Italian singer and composer , above all the creator of late Baroque dramatic operas .

Live and act

Antonio Bioni, son of a tailor, was a pupil of Giovanni Porta . His first stage work, Climene , was performed in Chioggia in 1721 . A year later, his opera Cajo Mario was performed in Ferrara with great success . In the same year he wrote an opera for Count Franz Anton von Sporck in Kuks (Bohemia) for his private theater.

From 1726 he was a music teacher and harpsichord accompanist for an Italian opera company in Breslau , which he had joined in Kuks. In 1730 he became director and impresario of the troupe, which was disbanded in 1734. During this time Daniel Gottlieb Treu , who also contributed a few operas to the program, and Georg Gebel as harpsichordist of the ensemble, worked one after the other . Bioni wrote 25 operas for this ensemble from Wroclaw, some of which were very successful. The Bishop of Breslau, Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg , from 1729 also Elector of Mainz, appointed Bioni as his court composer in 1731. In the years 1738 and 1739 some of his compositions, including the opera Girita, were performed in Vienna, after which his traces are lost.

In addition to his stage works, only a few insignificant works are known by Bioni, including a four-part mass, 3 arias with orchestral accompaniment and a string overture.
