Antonio María Cardinal Cascajares y Azara (born March 2, 1834 in Calanda , † July 27, 1901 in Calahorra ) was a Spanish bishop and cardinal .

Life

Antonio Maria Cascajares y Azara occurred in 1846 in the Spanish Navy and left them in 1857 as a captain to theology and canon law to study. In 1861 he was ordained a priest . He worked for the Church in Zaragoza , Toledo and Burgos .

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on March 27, 1882 titular bishop of Dora and appointed him prelate of Ciudad Real . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain, Angelo Bianchi , donated him episcopal ordination on June 4th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Victoriano Guisasola y Rodríguez , Bishop of Orihuela , and Ciriaco Sancha y Hervás , Bishop of Ávila . He was appointed Bishop of Calahorra on March 27, 1884 . On December 17, 1891, Pope Leo XIII appointed him. to the Archbishop of Valladolid .

Leo XIII. accepted him in the consistory of November 29, 1895 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Sant'Eusebio in the college of cardinals . On March 24, 1898, he opted for the titular church of Sant'Agostino as a cardinal priest . On April 18, 1901, he was appointed Archbishop of Saragossa , but he died on July 27, 1901 in Calahorra before he could take office. He was buried in his birthplace, Calanda.
