Antonio Moreno Casamitjana
Antonio Moreno Casamitjana (born July 9, 1927 in Santiago de Chile , Chile , † July 31, 2013 in Concepción ) was a Roman Catholic theologian and Archbishop of Concepción .
Life
Antonio Moreno Casamitjana studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Seminary of Santiago and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile . He was ordained a priest on December 4, 1949 and worked in the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile. Antonio Moreno was professor and rector at the Pontifical Seminary of Santiago and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he was also dean of the theological faculty and member of the Senate.
Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 22, 1986 auxiliary bishop in Santiago de Chile and titular bishop of Mades . The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile Juan Francisco Cardinal Fresno Larraín consecrated him on July 9, 1986 as bishop ; Co- consecrators were Eladio Vicuña Aránguiz , Archbishop of Puerto Montt , and Bernardino Piñera Carvallo , Archbishop of La Serena . His motto was “Anunciaré tu verdad” (I will clarify your truth). As episcopal vicar he was responsible for the north of the diocese. He was also chairman of the Commission for Communication of the Chilean Bishops' Conference.
He was named Archbishop of Concepción on October 14, 1989 , and introduced to office on November 12 of the same year. In 1989 he was appointed to the Pontifical Commission for Latin America , and from 1990 he was also advisor to the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers . In 1993 he became a member of the Pastoral Commission of the Episcopal Conference of Chile and in 1995 a member of the Standing Committee of the Conference. He was Chancellor of the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción , which he founded in 1991.
On December 27, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
