Apillapampa ( Aymara : " Oka plain") is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Apillapampa is the third largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Capinota in the Province of Capinota . The village is located at an altitude of 3326  m on a plateau about ten kilometers southeast of the Río Arque , which is one of the headwaters of the Bolivian Río Grande . To the west of the village stretches a north-south running ridge, which here reaches a height of over 3,800 m.

Apillapampa is located in the Bolivian Cordillera Central in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 14 ° C (see Apillapampa climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between a good 10 ° C in June and July and just under 17 ° C in November and December. The annual precipitation is around 550 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with up to 140 mm monthly precipitation.

Apillapampa is 95 kilometers south of Cochabamba , the capital of the department.

Cochabamba from west leads the paved highway Ruta 4 , which at Caracollo the Ruta 1 encounters that the Altiplano crossed from north to south. 37 kilometers southwest of Cochabamba, a dirt road branches off in a south-easterly direction at Parotani and reaches the city of Capinota after 30 kilometers . Three kilometers south of Capinota, another country road branches off to the south, crosses the Río Arque and continues to the village of Arque . Shortly after the river crossing, a track branches off again in a southerly direction, after 22 kilometers it reaches the village of Apillapampa and continues to San Pedro de Buena Vista .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Capinota 90.9 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
