San Pedro de Buena Vista (short: San Pedro ) is a town in the Potosí Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

San Pedro is the seat of the administration of the province of Charcas and the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San Pedro de Buena Vista . The village is located at an altitude of 2668  m on the narrow ridge of a ridge on the Río San Pedro , which joins the Río Caine to the Río Grande , a tributary of the Amazon , 90 kilometers below the city .

San Pedro de Buena Vista is located in the Bolivian Cordillera Central in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands.

The climate is pleasantly balanced due to the altitude, but very dry for large parts of the year. The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see Torotoro climate diagram), the monthly mean fluctuates only slightly between 14.5 ° C in July and 20 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is about 560 mm, with a clearly pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation below 25 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with well over 100 mm monthly precipitation.

San Pedro de Buena Vista is located 180 kilometers south of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name, Cochabamba .

From Cochabamba the paved road Ruta 4 leads in a westerly direction , which meets the north-south running Ruta 1 at Caracollo and leads south to Potosí. At a distance of 37 kilometers southwest of Cochabamba, a dirt road branches off in a south-easterly direction at Parotani and reaches the city of Capinota after thirty kilometers . Three kilometers south of Capinota, another country road branches off to the south, crosses the Río Arque and continues to the village of Arque . Shortly after crossing the river, a track branches off in a southerly direction and after 22 kilometers reaches the village of Apillapampa , overcomes pass heights of 4,000 m and ends after another 85 kilometers in San Pedro de Buena Vista .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of San Pedro de Buena Vista 98.6 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
