The city is located in the Aqmola area .

history

The place was founded in 1887 as Alexejewka (Алексеевка). In 1965 Alexejewka was granted city rights. The city has had its current name since 1997.

Aqköl has 13,853 inhabitants (2020). Until 1991 the place had about 20,000 inhabitants, since then the number of inhabitants has decreased.
