Arapata is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia . It consists of the two districts of Santa Rosa de Lima and San José de Pery .

Location in the vicinity

Arapata is the central place of the canton Arapata in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Coripata in the province of Nor Yungas . The village is located at an altitude of 1700  m on a plateau on a left tributary of the Río Boopi , which flows north and flows into the Río Beni .

geography

Arapata is located in the transition area between the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real in the west and the foothills of the Amazon lowlands in the east.

The annual precipitation here in the subtropical Yungas is 1100 mm (see Coroico climate diagram) and has a clear dry season from May to August and a rainy season from December to February. The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 20 ° C and 25 ° C, during the day it is warm in summer and pleasantly cool at night.

Transport network

Arapata is located at a distance of 106 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department.

From La Paz the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads in a northeasterly direction 52 kilometers to Cotapata and from there as a gravel road over 35 kilometers to Coroico . Here the route 40 branches off to the southeast and after 22 kilometers it reaches Arapata and from there continues via Coripata to Puente Villa , where it meets the route 25 , which continues in a south-easterly direction to Inquisivi and Cochabamba .

Due to the historical population development in the Municipio Coripata, the Aymara population is predominant, 72.3 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
