Archive for Small Press & Communication

The Archive for Small Press & Communication (ASPC) is an art collection founded by Anne Marsily and Guy Schraenen in 1974 in Antwerp , Belgium , which collects and documents works from all branches of contemporary art that are created independently of the official art scene on their own initiative.

All major artistic directions since the 1960s are represented, such as Conceptual Art , Fluxus , Land Art , Minimal Art , Pop Art and Concrete Poetry . Since 1974 the ASPC has continuously published publications, produced radio programs, organized exhibitions, lectures and symposia.

The 1960s and 70s form the main focus of this archive, which resulted in an extraordinarily interesting and homogeneous collection in all its facets. It manifests art in the artistically and politically most important period of the second half of the 20th century.

You can find works by artists such as Ben , Christian Boltanski , Marcel Broodthaers , Daniel Buren , James Lee Byars , John Cage , Ulises Carrión , Henri Chopin , Mirtha Dermisache , Hanne Darboven , Robert Filliou , Dan Graham , Sol LeWitt , Richard Long , Roman Opalka , Dieter Roth , Daniel Spoerri , Timm Ulrichs , Bernard Villers , Andy Warhol and Lawrence Weiner .

The ASPC was acquired by the Neues Museum Weserburg Bremen in 1999 . Until 1999, the founder of the ASPC, Guy Schraenen , was responsible for building up the collection of artists' books in this museum and organized over 25 thematic and solo exhibitions. Today he is curator and responsible for similar collections in the Serralves (Porto), MACBA (Barcelona) and Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid) museums .
