The Atlas Arena (until August 2009 Arena Łódź ) is a multifunctional arena in the third largest Polish city of Łódź , Łódź Voivodeship , which was opened in June 2009 and can be used for various types of events.
history
The first plans for the construction of a new multifunctional arena in Łódź were already discussed in 2004. The first drafts were created by the ATJ Architekci architectural office under the direction of Jacek Kwieciński and Tomasz Kosma Kwieciński. After some changes to the designs, construction work finally began on January 19, 2006. The Łódź arena was opened on June 26th, 2009.
In August 2009, the Polish Atlas Group acquired the naming rights for the arena for five million złoty (around 1.2 million euros) for five years.
Data and usage
The arena has an official audience capacity of 10,049, which can be increased to 13,806 with additional seating in the interior. The stadium also has eleven VIP boxes and 1,500 outdoor parking spaces.
Various major events such as concerts and conferences as well as various sporting events take place in the arena. The stadium can be used for basketball , volleyball , athletics and ice hockey , among other things .
There are also concerts and events with national and international artists, including: Depeche Mode , Rammstein , Tokio Hotel , Roger Waters , Slayer , Megadeth , Shakira , Sade , Thirty Seconds to Mars , Rihanna , Andrea Bocelli , Elton John , Il Divo , Sting , Muse , Smokie , Justin Bieber , Mark Knopfler , Eric Clapton , Green Day , Iron Maiden , Leonard Cohen , System of a Down , Toto .
