Nothing is known about Stindt's parents, childhood and youth. He is mentioned for the first time in 1594 with regard to the dike work at Wapelersiel near Schwei , which was given to him by the Oldenburg Count Johann VII , who in turn was known as a dike builder . Later he was bailiff in Neuchâtel and began in this function with the construction of the dike near Ellens in order to close the Black Brack , which was created during the Second Marcellus Flood in 1362 and was enlarged by the Antoni Flood in 1511 . In contrast to previous attempts, which had failed, Stindt used a new technique with several 30 × 6 m countersunk pieces to close the approx. 30 m wide bellows. In this way it was possible to establish a direct land connection between Oldenburg and Jeverland on July 31, 1615 within a tide with the Ellenser Damm . A plaque attached to one of the towers of Dangaster Siele in 1955 honors Stindt's achievements.

At that time, however, Stindt received no payment for his work and later even had to refer to his services to building the dike with a request for a small pension. Around 1620 Stindt was then appointed by Johann VII's successor, Count Anton Günther, as Vogt of Zwischenahn and Edewecht . During the Thirty Years' War this area was particularly endangered and Stindt was also entrusted with the dykes for the entire county of Oldenburg . In this function he also directed the work at Hayenschlot in 1635.

family

Stindt married twice, the name of his first wife being unknown. From this marriage comes the daughter Rebecca (1600–1667), who married Libori Wehlau (1595–1662), noble and inherited Junker zu Specken in 1620 . In 1622, Stindt married Margarete Wyttinges († 1668), the daughter of the mayor of Friesoythe , for the second time .
