Wapelersiel is a farming community in the municipality of Jade ( Wesermarsch district ) in the north of Lower Saxony . The place takes its name from the Wapel , a tributary of the Jade .

Wapelersiel is located in the northern area of the municipality of Jade, directly on the Jade Bay , a bay on the North Sea .

Wapelersiel is on federal highway 437 , which leads from Varel in the west in an easterly direction to the Weser . The A 29 from Oldenburg to Wilhelmshaven runs 6 km to the west.

Pumping station

The Jade estuary pumping station is located in Wapelersiel . The water from the jade is channeled into the North Sea through sluice gates . In the case of large amounts of rain, four pumps take over this task. They serve to regulate the water in a total of approx. 195 km² inland . Before the pumping station was built (1965), there were regular floods in the hinterland in the course of the Jade and Wapel . With a Stromräumboot the 7 km long is outside depth of Verschlickungen by the tide kept free.
