Jade is a municipality in the western part of the Wesermarsch district in Lower Saxony (Germany).

geography

location

The municipality of Jade is the westernmost municipality in the Wesermarsch district. It is located around 25 kilometers north of Oldenburg and around 30 kilometers south of Wilhelmshaven . The district town of Brake is 20 kilometers away. It borders on the Jade Bay for 12 kilometers . The Wapel flows with jade in the jade , which runs through the community and the community gives its name. The Bollenhagener Moorwald lies in the area .

Neighboring communities

The municipality borders on the Jade Bay to the north, the municipality of Stadland in the northeast and the municipality of Ovelgönne in the southeast . Like Jade, both communities belong to the Wesermarsch district . history

The Count of Oldenburg built Vry-Jade Castle in 1415 as a bulwark against the Rüstringer Frisians. The Frisians were able to completely destroy the castle in 1423. It was only rebuilt in 1450 by Oldenburg Count Gerd the Brave , but was finally dragged through the Hamburgers in 1480 . The Hamburgers were certainly targeting the pirates , as Gerd the Brave regularly had pirate trips carried out on their merchant ships and waged war against the Hanseatic city of Bremen . The still existing settlements Kreuzmoor and Bollenhagen were founded around 1500.

Place name

In the 11th century the place was called Jaden and in the 13th century Jatha .
Jade is a water body name, an old, pre-Germanic, Indo-European education. It contains the same basis as Jena as an old name for a section of the river Saale between Naumburg and Jena, approx. 830–850 Iani , points to a basic form Jania .

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the neighboring community of Schweiburg was incorporated.

Municipal council

The municipal council is elected for five years and consists of 16 council members. The 16 council members are elected by local authority for each. The last term began on November 1, 2011 and ended on October 31, 2016.

The full-time mayor Henning Kaars of the UWG is also entitled to vote in the municipal council.

Community partnerships

Since 2001 there has been a community partnership with the Hungarian town of Bakonynána . Bakonynána is a village in Veszprém county with about 1,100 inhabitants. It is located around 40 kilometers northeast of Lake Balaton and is around two hours' drive from the capital Budapest .

Attractions

The Jaderpark in Jaderberg is a privately run zoo and amusement park with rides and a play barn. The target group are parents with children up to 12 years of age. The ride attractions are open in the summer season, the zoo and the play barn all year round. The Jaderpark, which emerged from the Jaderberger Zoo founded in 1950, was given a new theme park concept in the 1990s and completely rebuilt in several steps. The animal population shows around 600 animals from around 120 different species.

The water cascade in the Jader district of Diekmannshausen is an information center on the subject of water. The storage pumping station of the Oldenburg-Ostfriesischer Wasserverband (OOWV), which was built in 1956 and shut down in 1996, offers useful information about drinking water and the history of drinking water supply.

Natural monuments

The south of the Jade Bay located municipality has an approximately 12 km long, directly to the Jade Bay adjacent dike line . The wadden area directly in front of the dike is part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park .

The Sehestedt outer dike bog on the Jade Bay near the Jader district of Sehestedt is unique . The ten hectare area, also known as the “ floating moor ”, has been part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park since 1986.

The Jaderberg nature reserve is also located in the municipality . The 18.5  hectare nature reserve with the NSG WE 094 label serves to protect a colony of gray herons that have settled in the treetops of a wood for at least 50 years.

Economy and Transport

The community is connected to the A 29 motorway from Oldenburg to Wilhelmshaven via the Jaderberg motorway exit . The two state roads L 820 and L 862 run from the Jaderberg motorway exit to the B 437 federal road , which runs from Varel through the municipality to the Weser tunnel .

The Wilhelmshaven – Oldenburg railway runs across the municipality . However, the municipality currently does not have its own train station on the railway line. The next train stations are in Varel or Rastede. Since October 2009, the community has been trying to re-establish a stopping point. In the meantime, the state of Lower Saxony is planning to set up a stop.

Within the Bremen-Lower Saxony transport association (VBN) , regular buses run between Jaderberg and the individual neighboring towns. The regional bus routes are operated by different service providers, including a. operated by Weser-Ems Busverkehr GmbH.

Long-distance cycle routes

Two long-distance cycle paths lead through the municipality . The Deutsche Sielroute is a long-distance cycle route through the Wesermarsch district . It has a length of 220 kilometers and is mainly characterized by the typical landscape of the Wesermarsch . The Tour de Fries is a 250-kilometer circuit around the Jade Bay through parts of the Frisian landscape . The long-distance cycle path first leads from Wilhelmshaven by boat to Eckwarderhörne on the eastern side of the Jade Bay and then by bike around the Jade Bay to Varel . From there it goes south to Linswege, via Wiesmoor , Friedeburg and Wittmund again north to Carolinensiel and from there via Horumersiel , Hooksiel , Jever and Schortens back to Wilhelmshaven.

  • The Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Jade and Schweiburg are represented in Jade . Both belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg .
