The Tour de Fries is a touristic circular cycle route through the district of Friesland , the district of Wittmund , the district of Ammerland and the independent city of Wilhelmshaven . The approx. 280 kilometer long circuit first leads from Wilhelmshaven along the Jadebusen through the municipality of Sande, the Frisian Wehde and the artist town of Dangast to Varel . From there it goes south to Linswege, through Bockhorn via Wiesmoor , Friedeburg and Wittmund again north to Carolinensiel and from there via Horumersiel , Hooksiel , Jever and Schortens back to Wilhelmshaven. In 2013 the Tour de Fries was awarded 4 out of 5 possible stars by the ADFC as a quality route.

During the tour, you can visit the Art on the Dike Sculpture Path along the way around the Jade Bay . A total of 14 sculptures can be seen that artistically deal with the subject of creation and its preservation.

An alternative route of the Tour de Fries leads from Wilhelmshaven by ferry across the Jade Bay and on its eastern side through Butjadingen to Varel. There the alternative route ties in with the regular route guidance.
