Arlene Golonka

Arlene Golonka (born January 23, 1936 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress .

Life

Golonka first studied acting at the Goodman Theater in Chicago before moving to New York City at the age of 19 , where she studied with Lee Strasberg , Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen , among others .

In 1958 she first appeared on a large stage at the Shubert Theater in New Haven alongside Ben Gazzara . The play later moved to Broadway , but was quickly canceled there. However, she got new Broadway engagements, including in Neil Simon 's first Broadway play Come Blow Your Horn (If My Bedroom Could Talk) with 677 performances and in the stage version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with Kirk Douglas in the lead role.

In 1967 she moved to Los Angeles and began a career as a television actress. In addition to guest appearances in television series such as M * A * S * H , Tennis Rackets and Cannons or FBI , she had a recurring role in the series Mayberry RFD, produced between 1968 and 1971. Golonka had her first small feature film appearance in Arthur Hiller's In Love with a Stranger in 1963 . Major roles followed a few years later in the western Hang Him Higher and Arkansas Murderer . In the 1970s she played in Airport '77 - Lost in the Bermuda Triangle, among others . Since the 1980s she has mainly appeared in television series, most recently in King of Queens in 2005 .
