The Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster is a passenger car that the British manufacturer Armstrong Siddeley produced from 1945 to 1952 as the first post-war model and successor to the 16-Six .

The chassis was completely new and had independent wheel suspension with torsion bar springs at the front and a driven rigid axle at the rear, which was suspended from longitudinal leaf springs. The model had a partially hydraulic braking system from Girling . The front wheel brakes were operated hydraulically, while rope and rod brakes were used on the rear axle. The vehicles were equipped with disc wheels as standard, but wire-spoke wheels were also available on request, an option that was rarely chosen.

Initially, an overhead six - cylinder engine with 1991 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 65 mm × 100 mm) was installed, which delivered an output of 70 bhp (51 kW) at 4200 rpm with a compression of 7: 1. This engine came from the predecessor 16-Six. From 1949 it was replaced by an engine with the same characteristics, but 2309 cm³ displacement (bore × stroke = 70 mm × 100 mm), a compression of 6.5: 1 and an output of 75 bhp (55 kW) at 4200 rpm. In addition to a manual gearbox, a preselector gearbox was also available on request .

The four-door sedan body came from Mulliners of Birmingham . A sliding roof was part of the standard equipment. There were also special bodies, such as B. a landaulet for the government of Malta . In 1950 and 1951 there was still a Pullman sedan .

By 1952, 3597 copies of the Lancaster were built. Successor from 1955 was the Sapphire 236 .
