Arno Keil (born August 17, 1900 in Görlitz , † April 24, 1974 in Braunschweig ) was a German actor and director . He worked at the Braunschweig State Theater from 1935 to 1965 .

Life

Arno Keil was born in Görlitz in 1900. He began his acting career in 1923 at the local theater as a young comedian, followed by engagements in Leipzig and Berlin. There he worked at the Wallner Theater and also worked in silent films as a partner to Marlene Dietrich , William Dieterle and Harry Piel . He was engaged in Bremerhaven from 1927 to 1933, where he first worked as a director. Keil then came to the Braunschweig State Theater via Koblenz. There he worked from 1935 to 1965 with great success in numerous comic characters, including as a frog in the bat , Jupiter in Orpheus in the underworld, Striese in The Robbery of the Sabine Women or Village Judge Adam in The Broken Jug . As a director, he staged over 20 Christmas tales. After the end of World War II , Keil was the initiator and head of the building block collection for the State Theater , which was almost completely burned out in October 1944 . The Great House was festively reopened on December 25, 1948 and at that time was the largest stage in the three western zones. For his services, Keil was honored with the gold medal of the German Stage Members' Cooperative .

Outside of Braunschweig, Keil appeared at the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival in 1964 as a fat cousin in Jedermann .

Arno Keil lived in Braunschweig at Wachholtzstrasse 5. He died on April 24, 1974 at the age of 73 in Braunschweig.
