Arno Landmann

Arno Landmann (born October 23, 1887 in Blankenhain , Thuringia , † May 10, 1966 in Schriesheim ) was a German instrumentalist , author , arranger and composer .

Life

After attending high school in Jena , he began 1903 a study of the Grand Ducal School of Music in Weimar , in addition to his main subject organ , he studied bassoon , piano and cello .

In 1908 he was appointed organist at the Stadtkirche Weimar and in 1909 as an organ teacher at the Grand Ducal Music School in Weimar. After moving to the Leipzig Conservatory , the exceptional talent became a student of Karl Straube and Max Reger . Straube described him as "an unsurpassable organ virtuoso". He quickly belonged to the closest circle of Reger's students, as well as Joseph Haas , Karl Haase and Gottfried Rüdinger.

In 1911 Landmann was appointed organist at the large Steinmeyer organ in the Christ Church (Mannheim) , an office he held until 1943 . In addition to his work as church music director , which he pursued from 1923 , Landmann composed and performed in many German cities.

Karg-Elert dedicated the Impression in D flat major to Landmann, No. 9 from Opus 86, Ten Characteristic Pieces for Organ, Leuckart, Leipzig, 1911.
