Arnold Jan Bruggink [ ˈɑɾnɔlt jɑn ˈbɾʏχɪŋk ] (born  July 24, 1977 in Almelo ) is a former Dutch football player .

Club career

In the Netherlands and Spain

He began his career in the Netherlands with Stevo Geesteren , for whom he played from 1983 to 1991. From 1991 to 1997 he played for FC Twente Enschede . He then moved to PSV Eindhoven , for which he played from 1997 to 2003. After a one-year stint in the Spanish Primera División at RCD Mallorca in the 2003/04 season, in which he scored seven goals in 26 games, he returned to the Netherlands and played two seasons for SC Heerenveen from 2004 to 2006 . In total, he scored 100 goals in 303 games in the Dutch Eredivisie .

At Hannover 96

In the summer of 2006, Bruggink moved to Hannover 96 for free in the Bundesliga . He signed a contract with Hanover until 2009. In Hanover, after initial difficulties and a weak first half of the season, he was already described as a bad buy, but he played all the better in the second half and scored six goals this season. He thus fulfilled the expectations of those in charge at Hannover 96 and became a regular player. In the 2007/08 season he lost his regular place due to a weak first half of the season , but fought his way back into the starting line-up with good performances and six goals this season.

In the first half of the 2008/09 season, Bruggink again showed poor performance, which together with a red card and minor injuries cost him his regular place again. In the second half of the season he did a great job for Hannover with four goals and twelve assists , so that he became an important part of the team again.

During the first half of the 2009/10 season, Arnold Bruggink (succeeding the late Robert Enke ) became the team captain of Hannover 96 . On the 34th and final matchday of the 2009/10 season , Bruggink completed one of his strongest games in the Hannover 96 jersey in the previously titled “relegation final at VfL Bochum . In the 3-0 win, he made it 1-0 and was there strongest player on the field. With this victory Hannover 96 celebrated staying in the Bundesliga. VfL Bochum, on the other hand, was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . After his contract expired, Arnold Bruggink left the club at the end of the 2009/10 season.

At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Bruggink had no contract and initially kept fit with his former employer PSV Eindhoven from August 2010. In October 2010 he returned to FC Twente in Enschede . After a rather disappointing year from his point of view - he was used six times in the Eredivisie, there was also an appearance in the KNVB Cup - Bruggink decided to end his active career as a professional footballer at the end of the season when his contract expired.

National team

Arnold Bruggink is a record-breaking U21 national player with 31 appearances for the Dutch U21 national team and with 15 goals he is second (together with Roy Makaay and behind Klaas-Jan Huntelaar ) on the eternal top scorer list of this national team. Bruggink completed two international matches for the Dutch senior team .
