Aron Jóhannsson (born November 10, 1990 in Mobile , Alabama ) is an Icelandic - American soccer player . He is currently under contract with the Swedish first division club Hammarby IF and is a US international .

Career

society

Aron Jóhannsson was born to Icelandic parents in Mobile in the US state of Alabama. After the parents returned to Iceland after completing their studies - Aron was three months old or three years old at the time - Aron Jóhannsson began playing football in the youth of Fjölnir Reykjavík in Reykjavík in 2000 . In 2008 he joined the club's professional team. He first played in the Pepsideild , the highest Icelandic football league. In 2009 he was relegated to the 1st deild karla with Fjölnir .

In 2010 he moved to the 1st division , the second Danish division, to Aarhus GF . He made his debut on the 8th match day of the 2010/11 season in a 3-2 win over HB Køge . He rose with Aarhus as a master in the super league . In the 2011/12 season he finished fifth with Aarhus as a newcomer. With this placement in the preseason he took part with Aarhus in the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League qualification . There they lost in the second round to the Georgian representative FC Dila Gori . In his final season for Aarhus 2012/13 , he scored 14 goals and was fourth on the scorers list.

In January 2013 Aron Jóhannsson moved to the Netherlands for the first division club AZ Alkmaar . He won the KNVB Cup with Alkmaar in May 2013 . On August 4, 2015, the club announced on its official website the move to the German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen , where on August 5, he signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2019. There he scored his first Bundesliga goal by foul penalty in the 2-1 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 3 of the 2015/16 season , making it 1-0. Not least because of longer injury breaks, Jóhannsson was unable to establish himself with the Bundesliga club, so his contract, which expired in summer 2019, was not extended.

Aron Jóhannsson then joined the Swedish first division club Hammarby IF in July during the current 2019 season , with whom he signed a contract until 2022.

National team

Aron Jóhannsson could choose whether he wanted to play for the teams of the US or Icelandic Football Association . As Aron Jóhannsson comes from Icelandic parents and grew up in Iceland, he has Icelandic citizenship. Due to the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution , which states that every person who was born on the soil of the USA receives American citizenship (see also the principle of birthplace ), Jóhannsson is also eligible to play for the USA.

First he played for the U-21 Islands and also took part in qualifying for the U-21 European Football Championship 2011 , in which the team qualified for the finals. He himself did not take part in the finals of the U-21 European Football Championship in 2011 .

Aron Jóhannsson decided to play for the US national soccer team. He made his debut on September 7, 2013 under Jürgen Klinsmann in the World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica . In the 1: 3 defeat, he came on in the 90th minute for Clint Dempsey . A change of association has since been ruled out, as Aron Jóhannsson was used in a competitive game. He scored his first goal on October 15, 2013 in the game against Panama. He was also nominated for the 2014 World Cup and was used in the first game against Ghana .

A year later, Aron Jóhannsson took part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 . His last international appearance was on September 9, 2015. By then, he had completed 19 international matches in which he scored 4 goals.
