Under the direction of Jack Arnold, he played the title role in The Horror Creeps through the Night , a Dr.-Jekyll-and-Mr.-Hyde variant in the university environment and the male lead in each of Lesley Selander's Flight to Mars and William Cameron Menzies ' Invasion of Mars .
His other films include the horror film parody Abbott Costello on Sherlock Holmes' footsteps , the war films You Were Our Comrade (with John Wayne ), Company Panther Jump and Hellhounds of the Pacific and the drama Woman Without a Conscience (with Rod Steiger ). Franz ended his acting career in 1982 with a last appearance in the television drama Sensation of the Masters (alongside Robert Mitchum, Martin Sheen and Bruce Dern ).
