action
When more and more ships disappeared without a trace at the North Pole in 1969 , the US government decided to send the newest nuclear submarine “Tigershark” to solve the mystery. Rebuilt and equipped with torpedoes with nuclear warheads , a launch pad for a Polaris rocket and a diving bell , the crew, under the direction of Captain Wendover, go on a search. In the vicinity of the North Pole, they discover a UFO underwater , which they call "Cyclop", and which is currently on its way to the North Pole. They suspect that the UFO is charging its energy supplies there using geomagnetism . When they tracked down the UFO, however, they found that their torpedoes had no effect, so they rammed the UFO. The submarine becomes wedged in the spaceship and both sink to the sea floor. The attempt to get away from the UFO fails and so some men go on board the spaceship with the help of the diving bell. There they discover a one-eyed, octopus-like creature that makes itself understood through telepathy . It explains to the captain that it is a harbinger to explore the earth in order to explore it and take over later. All attempts to kill the being fail because it can regenerate itself.
After the submarine has been freed, the decision is made to destroy the UFO with the Polaris rocket when it is launched into the earth's atmosphere, which ultimately succeeds.

Reviews
“The 50s were the heyday for fantastic B-movies in America. This late black and white representative from 1959 links a submarine drama with aliens who want to conquer the world again and destroy all ships in the Arctic in an underwater UFO. Directed by Spencer Gordon Bennet (Batman and Robin) , who was already active during the silent film era and had turned over 100 films to date. His crew consists of mostly older actors who were well known at the time, who all play convincingly ... Conclusion: Anyone who likes nostalgic science fiction B-movies is in good hands here. "
“The crew of a nuclear submarine is destroying an interplanetary radiation body operating below the polar circle. Science fiction film of technically poor imagination, which lauds the military. "
