Joi Lansing

Joi Lansing (born April 6, 1929 in Salt Lake City , Utah , † August 7, 1972 in Santa Monica , California ), actually Joyce Renee Brown , was an American actress .

Life

Lansing already worked as a model during her school days and received a film contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer before she graduated from school . She played next to Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in Easter Walk , next to Frank Sinatra , Gene Kelly and Esther Williams in Game for Three and in the musical film You should be my lucky star ; Her roles were initially mostly in the field of extras and she was cast mainly because of her attractive outward appearance. However, as a Mormon , she never appeared naked.

In the 1950s she appeared in several music films for Scopitone - Jukebox system with. In 1956 she had the first female lead in the crime film Hot Cars at the side of John Bromfield and in 1958 she played in the opening sequence of Orson Welless Film noir In the Sign of Evil . From the mid-1950s she also played increasingly in television productions and had guest roles in the television series Maverick , Adventure Under Water and A Thousand Miles of Dust , among others . Between 1955 and 1959 she also had the recurring role of Shirley Swanson on the sitcom The Bob Cummings Show . She played in the Orson Welles-directed pilot episode The Fountain of Youth , which was awarded the Peabody Award , but was not developed into a series. From the early 1960s she was also active as a singer and appeared as a singer in Las Vegas in 1966 on the side of Red Buttons and Jayne Mansfield .

Lansing was married three times. Her first marriage was annulled after a few months, the second marriage to actor Lance Fuller divorced in 1953 after three years. She was married one last time from 1960 until her death from breast cancer in 1972.
