Arthur Sackville Trevor Griffith-Boscawen , Kt , PC (born October 18, 1865 in Trevalyn Hall, Allington , Denbighshire , Wales ; † June 1, 1946 in Cottesmore Gardens, Kensington , London ) was a British politician of the Conservative Party , who among other things from 1892 to 1906 and again 1910-1922 Member of Parliament ( House of Commons ) was. He was also Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1921 to 1922 and Minister of Health between 1922 and 1923.

Life

Arthur Sackville Trevor Griffith-Boscawen was the second of four children of Captain of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Boscawen Trevor Griffith-Boscawen and his wife Helen Sophia Duff, a daughter of Vice Admiral Norwich Duff . After attending the renowned Rugby School , founded in 1567 , he graduated from Queen's College at the University of Oxford and was president of the Oxford Union debating society there in 1888 .

In the elections of July 4, 1892 Griffith-Boscawen was for the Conservative Party for the first time as a member of the lower house ( House of Commons ) selected and represented in this by 12 January 1906 constituency Tunbridge . During this time he was from 1895 to 1900 Parliamentary Private Secretary to Chancellor Michael Hicks Beach . He also served as a lieutenant colonel in the 3rd Battalion of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment . In the election of December 3, 1910 , he was re-elected for the Conservative Tories as a member of the House of Commons, in which he now represented the constituency of Dudley until March 3, 1921 . On July 6, 1911, he was beaten to Knight Bachelor (Kt) and has since had the addition of "Sir". After he was between December 5, 1916 and January 10, 1919 Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Pensions, he served between January 10, 1919 and February 13, 1921 as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. As such, he was also on 22 January 1920, a member of the Secret Privy Council ( Privy Council ) appointed.

On February 13, 1921, Arthur Griffith-Boscawen replaced Arthur Lee, 1st Baron Lee of Fareham as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in the Lloyd George government and held this ministerial office until October 19, 1922. Am April 8, 1921, he was re-elected to the House of Commons in the Taunton constituency and was a member of this until November 15, 1922. In the subsequent Bonar Law government , he took over the post of Minister of Health on October 24, 1922 and held this office until March 7, 1923, when Neville Chamberlain succeeded him.

Sir Arthur Sackville Trevor Griffith-Boscawen was married twice. His first marriage was on July 28, 1892 in Langton Green Edith Sarah Williams, who died on July 17, 1919. This marriage remained childless. The daughter Penelope Boscawen emerged from the second marriage with Phyllis Maud Dereham, closed on August 18, 1921 in St. Michaels in Bray-on-Thames .
