Arthur Hunnicutt

Arthur Hunnicutt (born February 17, 1910 in Gravelly , Arkansas , † September 26, 1979 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American actor . Arthur Hunnicutt often embodied the humorous rural type.

Life

Due to financial hardship, Hunnicutt had to drop out of school after three years. He joined a theater company in Massachusetts , then went to New York and became an actor on Broadway and appeared in numerous plays. In Tobacco Road , Hunnicutt played the lead role.

He starred in a few smaller films in the early 1940s, but quickly returned to the stage. In 1949 he went to Hollywood forever and began a career as a reliable performer in supporting roles. The highlight of his cinematic work was his lively and dynamic portrayal of Zeb Calloway in Howard Hawk's western The Big Sky in 1952. His reward was the applause of the audience, but also a nomination for an Oscar . For the rest of his career he continued to play similarly personable characters, especially often on television. Hunnicutt has appeared in the following series, among others: The Bounty Hunter , West of Santa Fé , Twilight Zone , At the foot of the blue mountains , Perry Mason , Amos Burke , Crazy Wild West , Bonanza , The People of Shiloh Ranch and Smoking Colts .

In 1979 Hunnicutt died of carcinoma of the oral cavity .
