Arvid Taube von Odenkat (1821-1887)

Arvid Graf Taube von Odenkat (born May 15, 1821 in Åsbergby , Sweden , † January 14, 1887 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish count and traffic director at several Swedish railway companies . He came from the German-Swedish-Baltic noble family of the " von Taube ".

Career

The maritime training Arvid Taube began in April 1835 as a cabin boy on the merchant ship "Solid" and ended in February 1836. He joined in 1837 as a cadet in the frigate "Josephine" and was from 1838 to 1840 at the Military Academy in Karlsberg Castle to be Seeoffizierspatent to get. From May to December 1840 he served as constable on the "James Boorman" and from July 1840 to April 1841 he was the "first mate" on this ship. In the Royal Swedish Navy, he was in 1841 to lieutenant and in 1849 to lieutenant promoted. From 1850 to 1853 he commanded a steamer of the Merchant Navy . With government support, he went to England in 1856 and studied rail traffic there , then from 1857 to 1859 he was the traffic director of the Swedish national railway . In 1857 he was promoted to lieutenant captain and from 1860 to 1863 he was traffic manager for the Borås-Herrljunga Railway (BHJ). On March 11, 1862 he was promoted to captain , in 1863 he was knight 1st class of the Wasa Order and in 1865 of the Order of the Sword . Until 1869 he was traffic manager and head of the machine department at the Uddevalla-Vänersborg-Herrlunga line (UWHJ). On November 21, 1871 he was made a knight of the Dannebrog Order and until 1871 he was traffic and machine manager at the Lidköping-Håkantorps Railway (HLJ)

family

Arvid Taube's parents were the Swedish court marshal Gustaf Johann Graf Taube von Odenkat (1796–1872) and Christina Ulrika Lagerbring (1798–1862). Arvid married Elina Pauline Rosenborg (1826–1879) in New York City in 1855 , a daughter of Chamberlain Axel Fredrik Rosenborg and Countess Anna Margareta Lovisa Cronhielm von Flosta. They had their daughter Anna Elina who was born in 1861 but died in 1870.
