Asante Samuel (* 6. January 1981 in Fort Lauderdale Florida ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the cornerbacks . He played in the National Football League (NFL) and is currently without a club.

college

Asante Samuel attended the University of Central Florida and played college football on the local football team . He made a total of 127 tackles , eight interceptions and broke the school record with 38 passports blocked. In the position of the punt returner he came to 673 yards with 63 punts and thus managed around eleven yards per punt.

Career

New England Patriots

Samuel was drafted in the fourth round of the New England Patriots in 2003 . Due to injury-related failures of the two regular cornerbacks, he was able to get a regular place in his first season with the Patriots. He also took part in the Super Bowl XXXIX and was able to win this against the Philadelphia Eagles , his future team.

In the 2006 season he finally caused a sensation with his achievements. He made ten interceptions, the majority this season and the second most in the history of the Patriots. The highlight was the game against the Chicago Bears , in which he got three interceptions. In the play-offs he was able to save his team from elimination with two touchdowns after interceptions.

In 2007 the Patriots put it up for sale. Nevertheless, his contract was extended for a year. He ended the season with six interceptions and one touchdown. In addition, he was elected to the Pro Bowl and led the Patriots to Super Bowl XLII , where they failed, however, at the New York Giants .

Philadelphia Eagles

Despite his strong performances, he was given up as a free agent in 2008 . He signed a six-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. He made his team debut on September 7th against the St. Louis Rams .
