Location of Aschering in Bavaria

Aschering is a village west of Lake Starnberg around 35 kilometers south of Munich in the Upper Bavarian Fünfseenland and belongs to the municipality of Pöcking . It has the shape of a cluster or church village arranged around the church and has been able to retain its rural appearance to this day despite further settlement. Extensive cultivation and pasture areas extend around the place.

history

Ash ring was first mentioned in 1010 in connection with the donation of land to Polling Monastery by King Heinrich II . However, previous archaeological finds from the previous century - large burial mound fields from the Hallstatt period scattered around the area - suggest settlement as early as the early Bavarian or pre-Christian times.

The history of the previously independent community of Aschering ended on July 1, 1972 when it was incorporated into Pöcking as part of the regional reform .

A regional band has named itself after the place name Aschering Blues .

Aschering celebrated its 1000th anniversary from July 16 to 19 in 2010.

Attractions

St. Sebastian Church
  • Church of Saint Sebastian : The church in the center of the village, owned by the Polling monastery for around 540 years, was restored in 1768 on behalf of the monastery and received a remarkable ceiling fresco by the plait and fresco painter Johann Baptist Baader (1717–1780). The artist from Lechmühlen am Lech was also known in the region under the name "Lechhansl". Parts of the church still date from the 13th century. The saddle tower has late Gothic sound openings.
  • König-Ludwig-Wanderweg: The so-called König-Ludwig-Weg leads through Aschering . This long-distance hiking trail has existed since 1977 in memory of Ludwig II and leads through a partially park-like pre-alpine landscape from Lake Starnberg to the Allgäu. These landscapes are said to have been particularly dear to the king's heart. The hiking trail begins in Berg am Starnberger See, where King Ludwig II was mysteriously killed, and ends in Füssen at the king's castles.
  • Eßsee : In the immediate vicinity of Aschering lies the small and secluded Eßsee, a so-called "Moorweiher", embedded in the forest. This is where the research village of Seewiesen is located with the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Physiology , which becameworld famousthanks to the Nobel Prize winner and “goose father” Konrad Lorenz . In earlier times, the Eßsee once belonged to a landlord from Aschering. Ice blocks were broken out of the lake to cool the beer supplies.
  • Old farms: In Aschering there are two former small farmhouses, plastered buildings with flat saddle roofs, from the 18th and 19th centuries , along the stream .

literature

A chronicle by Leonhard Poelt, first published in 1996, is available for the old communities of Aschering and Maising from the community of Pöcking : “Von Ascern und Musingin”.
