The Atlanta Tornado Outbreak is a series of tornado devastations in the southern US states of Alabama , Georgia and South and North Carolina on March 14th and 15th, 2008. The most devastating of the 45 tornadoes occurred in the region around and in Atlanta , Georgia .

The most devastating tornado hit downtown Atlanta, damaging many buildings including the CNN Center , Georgia Dome , Georgia World Congress Center , Philips Arena during an ongoing Atlanta Hawks basketball game, and the cemetery . A 45-year-old man died in the tornado near downtown on March 14. Two other people died on March 15 in the suburbs of Atlanta.

At 9 p.m. EDT , the Storm Prediction Center issued a severe weather warning for the entire southern United States from Oklahoma to Georgia with a 2% chance of a tornado in the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta. The cyclone reached Vine City with a magnitude of EF1 on the EF scale and moved south-southeast towards Cabbagetown and east Atlanta. More tornadoes

On March 14th and 15th, 45 tornadoes formed in the southern United States over a period of 21 hours and 50 minutes. Only the Atlanta tornado formed on March 14, the other 44 devastated large areas of the southern states on March 15. Three tornadoes scored EF3 on the EF scale, the first in the Aragon , Georgia area.
