geography

The floodplain is created about 2 km south of Westerhof , a southeastern part of the municipality of Kalefeld, through the confluence of the Kneppelbach, coming from the southeast, and the Sägemühlenbach, coming from the south.

From this "brook wedding" (called "Auequelle"), which is located at 151 m above sea level, the floodplain runs in a predominantly north-westerly direction through the districts of Westerhof , Willershausen , Oldershausen , Echte , Kalefeld and Sebexen (both districts of Kalefeld).

It then flows through Opperhausen to Haieshausen (southeastern districts of Einbeck ), and after about 19 km at a height of 103 m from the southeast, it flows into the Leine flowing from the south .

Spring streams

The main source stream of the floodplain is the Kneppelbach coming from the south-east, which rises south of Westerhof in the forest village of “Aschau” in the “Westerhöfer Wald”. From its source , which is located on the western slope of the 305 m high Kneppelberg at around 290 m above sea level, to the confluence of the floodplain into the Leine, the course of the river is around 23 km long.

The second source brook of the floodplain is the Sägemühlenbach coming from the south, which flows from a pond (approx. 195 m above sea level ) not far from the "Forsthaus Mandelbeck" located south-southwest of Westerhof .
