An eye for an eye (original title: La città sconvolta: caccia spietata ai rapitori ) is an Italian-made crime film in which Fernando Di Leo played one of the leading roles with James Mason . The film was first released on video in 1983 in German-speaking countries. The title of an abridged video release is Running Guns .

During a kidnapping, masked bandits target the son of the wealthy civil engineer Filippini and also take his friend prisoner. Fabrizio Colella is the only son of a widowed motorcycle mechanic with no financial means. A ransom of Lire 10 billion is required through the engineer's secretary. Filippini's tactics of dragging out the negotiations - against the wishes of his wife and Colellas - make the kidnappers impatient and kill Fabrizio.

As the police prove unable to act, Colella tries to help herself. He looks for and finds the bandits by taking the ransom from them when the money is handed over and thus can eliminate one after the other. Finally, he can also shoot the head of the organization.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film judged severely: "Cheap action film, which exposes the apparent impotence of the state in order to legitimize vigilante justice." In the book about the Italian police film genre, Michael Cholewa writes: “Let's not ask about the logic of this story, because then the plot will collapse”… but praises the work as “very exciting, entertaining and loud”.

Italian reviews were also negative: “Grim and morally reprehensible police film by the repeat offender Di Leo, who again advocates the revenge of the individual and, of course, laments the inability of the police,” said Massimo Bertarelli in a later look at the film; "All bad flaws in bad films are quickly found in this film, which is full of trivialities," said CG Fava in a contemporary judgment.
