August Christian Freiherr von Bülow (* 1728 ; † September 24, 1760 in Stadtbergen ) was a Prussian major , adjutant general of Duke Ferdinand von Braunschweig and commander of the Légion Britannique and prelate and scholastic of the chapter in Colberg .

Life

His parents were the Prussian minister Freiherr Friedrich von Bülow (1698–1738) and his wife Johanna Auguste, née von Arnim (1700–1763). She was the daughter of Georg Abraham von Arnim . General Friedrich Wilhelm Bülow von Dennewitz was his nephew.

By taking command of the Allied Army, the Duke of Braunschweig made Bülow his wing adjutant . During the fighting against the French, he was able to distinguish himself several times, including the attacks against Marburg and Butzbach . He then became major and adjutant general. Bülow set up a free corps of around 1500 men on foot and on horseback, which was named " Légion Britannique ". In July 1758 he drove the French Ritte Muy from Arolsen and on September 8, 1760 he was able to conquer Marburg and take the crew prisoner. His bravery and talents gave hope that he would one day become a great general, but Bülow was captured in a battle near Rhadern on September 13, 1760 so badly wounded that he died on September 24, 1760 in Stadtbergen. He was buried in Lippstadt .

A plaque was put up in the collegiate church in Lippstadt in his memory .

The later lieutenant general Emmerich Otto August von Estorff from the Electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg was his successor as commander of the Légion Britannique.
