August Dietrich Rische (born February 5, 1819 in Minden ; † November 15, 1906 in Ludwigslust ) was a German Lutheran pastor , composer and songwriter .

Life

August Dietrich Rische was born as the son of the registrar Ernst Heinrich Rische and his wife Karoline Louisa Elise Rische , nee Christiani . He first attended high school in Minden , which he graduated from high school in 1839. He then studied in Halle (Saale) and Münster . There he passed the theological exams in the fall of 1842 and in the fall of 1844.

Influenced by August Tholuck , to whose student group he belonged, he experienced his personal awakening in Halle. In 1844 he took up a position as vicar and private tutor with Pastor Johann Heinrich Volkening in Jöllenbeck . This encounter with the leading figure of the Minden-Ravensberg revival movement changed his further career. In Jöllenbeck he founded the first youth club and participated in the founding of the Evangelical High School in Gütersloh . In 1849, at the request of Ludwig Feldner (1805–1890) , Rische became inspector of the newly founded Evangelical Society for Germany . On April 14, 1850 he was appointed parish administrator in Bad Lippspringe . This was followed in 1852 by a pastor in Schwinkendorf . Rische also wrote the Sunday papers for the parishes in Mecklenburg for ten years .

On May 20, 1851, Rische married Ida Volkening , the eldest daughter of Johann Heinrich Volkening. There were six children from this marriage. After the death of his wife in 1860, Rische married her sister Klara Volkening in 1864 , who died in 1870. On June 30, 1900, August Dietrich Rische moved to Ludwigslust , where he lived as a retired church councilor .
