Wolfgang E. Heinrichs

Wolfgang E. Heinrichs (born May 11, 1956 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German historian and theologian . He is an adjunct professor for modern history at the historical seminar of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and teaches history and religion at the Freie Christian Gymnasium Düsseldorf . Heinrichs is also a pastor in the Association of Free Evangelical Churches .

Live and act

Heinrichs grew up in Solingen . He converted from the Catholic faith to the Free Evangelical Congregation. He studied history at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and Protestant theology at the Church University of Wuppertal / Bethel . Heinrichs did his doctorate in history on the subject of free churches as an expression of modernity , he wrote his habilitation on the subject of the image of the Jews in Protestantism . He also completed the theological seminar of the Free Evangelical Congregations in Ewersbach and - in addition to his professorship - became a pastor. After pastoring in Siegen-Weidenau and Calden , he was called to Wülfrath in August 1998 . He stayed here until August 2009, when he switched to school service and took on an apprenticeship at the private substitute school for the Free Christian High School in Düsseldorf .

In recognition of his services to the theology and history of the Free Evangelical Churches, he was awarded the “Neviandt Prize” on April 13, 2013.

His main research interests are recent social history (with a focus on church history), German-Jewish history in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of the free churches and regional history. As a result, Heinrichs' research projects include the situation of Jewish returnees after the Second World War in Wuppertal , the Evangelical Lexicon for Theology and Congregation , Free Church Research and the chronicle of the city of Wülfrath.

Heinrichs is a member of the advisory board of the Wuppertal department of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein .
