August Franz von Rodde

August Franz Freiherr von Rodde (born February 27, 1847 in Ludwigslust , † September 28, 1927 in Schwerin ) was a Prussian major general of the cavalry .

Life

He came from the Lübeck merchant family Rodde , which had been ennobled in the early 19th century, raised to the baron status and accepted into the Mecklenburg land nobility. From 1866 to 1885 he belonged to the 1st Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17 and took part in the war against France in 1870/71 . In 1910 he published two volumes on the history of the regiment. Rodde last served from May 22, 1899 to April 21, 1902 as commander of the 15th Cavalry Brigade in Cologne and rose to major general. Subsequently, in approval of his resignation request, he was put up for disposition with the statutory pension . On the occasion of his farewell, Rodde received the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves.

From 1905 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology . The biographies of officers compiled by Rodde with reference to the two Mecklenburg Grand Duchies are in the Schwerin State Main Archives .
