Cuno (Friedrich Carl) Freiherr von Rodde , also: Kuno von Rodde (born December 3, 1857 in Zibühl , † September 11, 1927 in Schwerin ) was a German forester, genealogist and heraldist .

life and work

Cuno von Rodde came from the Lübeck merchant family Rodde , which was ennobled in the early 19th century, raised to the baron status and accepted into the Mecklenburg land nobility. He was born as the younger son of Freiherr (Carl) August von Rodde (* 1812) and his wife, Sophia Louise Maria Wilhelmine, née. von Arnim, born. The father was a landowner at Zibühl and Dreetz , which at that time was still called Peetscher Hof . At the census of 1867, his family was already living on the Peetscher Hof estate ; However, Cuno and an older brother stayed in Ludwigslust (probably to attend school).

After graduating from school in Güstrow, Rodde studied forest science at the Eberswalde Forest Academy . In May 1883 he is enrolled at the University of Rostock to study law and camera science . Until 1896 he was a forester in the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg-Schwerin service. At the time of the 1900 census, Rodde was living in Rostock, but traveled a lot, which was expressly noted in the census list. In retirement he dealt with genealogy and heraldry. In the magazine "Familiengeschichtliche Blätter" he published essays on heraldic epitaphs and sphragistics by families of the Mecklenburg and Lower Saxony nobility . In 1908 he took over the "Familiengeschichtliche Blätter", which he published from 1909 in Schwerin. He later sold it to the Quassel Foundation in Leipzig .

From 1895 until his death he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology and since 1896 of the Herald .

Individual evidence

  1. His place of birth is given differently in the sources. Rodde himself stated in the 1900 census: Zibühl (today OT von Dreetz ) as the place of birth. Birth and baptism are recorded in the Tarnow church register, where both properties were parish and where various foundation objects with Roddescher provenance can be proven. There is no reason to doubt Rodde's self-disclosure .; Cf. also the handwritten entry by Cuno von Rodde , No. 6 in the small matriculations of the University of Rostock: 1881 WS - 1898 SS
  2. ^ Peetscher Hof was the name for Dreetz until 1877
  3. As a high school graduate, Rodde cannot be proven in Mecklenburg. At that time, university entrance qualification was not absolutely necessary for a career in the forest service. The entry of Roddes in the small matriculation of the University of Rostock underpins this. Only those students who could not produce a school leaving certificate had to register here.
  4. Registration of Cuno von Rodde in the Rostock matriculation portal
