August Hülsmann (* 1948 in Voltlage - Weese ) was Provincial of the Teutonic Order Province of the Sacred Heart Priests from 1998 to 2007, based in Bonn-Oberkassel .

Life

Hülsmann was a student at the Herz-Jesu-Priest grammar school in Handrup , lived there in the boarding school and thus got to know the order, which he joined after graduating in 1967. After studying in Freiburg im Breisgau and Münster as well as a year of diaconate in Vienna , Father Hülsmann was ordained a priest on May 29, 1975 in the Herz-Jesu Church in Handrup by the Auxiliary Bishop Karl-August Siegel from Osnabrück . After his ordination he was active in youth pastoral care and in school, and then from 1984 to 1993 as rector of the school and monastery in Handrup in Emsland. From 1993 to 1998 he was rector of the St. Sebastian monastery and college in Stegen near Freiburg for five years .

In 1998 Father Hülsmann was elected Provincial of the Teutonic Order Province of the Sacred Heart Priests . From July 2003 to mid-2006, in addition to his office as Provincial Chairman of the Association of Superiors of German Religious Orders (VDO), which represents more than 6,000 religious in Germany. At the beginning of 2004 he also became President of the Union of Conferences of Religious Superiors in Europe (UCESM - Unio Conferentiarum Europae Superiorum Majorum).

On January 1, 2010, Hülsmann was appointed Spiritual at the Speyer seminary by Bishop Wiesemann , a position he held until 2014 . After that he was spiritual at the Osnabrück seminary until October 2018 . Since November 1, 2018 he has been rector of the Handrup Monastery .
