August Haas

August Haas (born July 21, 1881 in Waldbröl , † March 28, 1945 in Hausen ) was a German trade unionist and social democratic politician.

Haas was a locksmith's assistant until 1904. In 1896 he joined the German Metalworkers' Association (DMV) and in 1898 the SPD. A short time later he was a board member of the free trade union cartel , the local branch of the metal workers' association and the SPD in Remscheid . After moving to Solingen , Haas became a board member of the DMV and the SPD. In 1907 and 1912 he ran in vain for the Reichstag . From 1904 he was first in Gevelsberg and from 1907 in Cologne full-time employee of the metal workers' association. In Gevelsberg he was chairman of the local trade union cartel and he held the same post in Cologne between 1914 and 1920.

From 1918 to 1924 Haas was a member of the city council in Cologne. During the November Revolution he was a member of the Action Committee of the Workers 'and Soldiers' Council in Cologne. In December 1918 he was a delegate of the first Reich Councilor Congress . From 1919 to 1921 Haas was a member of the Prussian state constituent assembly . After that he was a member of the Prussian state parliament until 1933 . He was also a member of the Rhenish Provincial Parliament and the Provincial Committee.

His main job was from 1920 to 1930 as an alderman at the city administration in Cologne. Between 1930 and 1932 he served as the provisional chief president of the Hesse-Nassau province . After the Prussian strike , he was put into temporary retirement .
