Ludwig von Windheim (born June 27, 1857 in Groß-Oschersleben , † January 15, 1935 in Königsberg ) was a German administrative lawyer and chief president of the provinces of Hesse-Nassau, East Prussia and Hanover.

Life

Windheim, son of the Oberamtmann Karl Hermann von Windheim, studied law and political science in Göttingen, Munich and Berlin. During his studies he became a member of the Corps Bremensia Göttingen and Franconia Munich . On January 13, 1879, he entered the judicial service as a trainee lawyer in the district of the Halberstadt Court of Appeal, later switched to general state administration and in 1884 became a government assessor in the presidential department of the government in Königsberg . In January 1886 he was with the administration of the district office of the district Ragnitand in July of the same year finally appointed district administrator there. In March 1894 he was appointed as an unskilled worker in the Ministry of the Interior and in April 1895 appointed police chief of Stettin . As early as June 1895, he succeeded the late Freiherr von Richthofen as police chief of Berlin . In 1902 he became district president in Frankfurt (Oder) , in 1903 chief president of the province of Hesse-Nassau and in 1907 of the province of East Prussia . In September 1914 he was installed as President of the Province of Hanover and held this office until his retirement in 1917.

He had been married to Klara von Gottberg since 1886.
