August Henne (born February 28, 1921 , † October 10, 2006 ) was a German forester who worked in Hesse . From 1966 to 1986 he headed the Hessische Forsteinrichtungsanstalt in Gießen .

Life

August Henne studied forest sciences at the forestry faculty of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in Hann. Münden . After the legal traineeship , which he completed with the Great State Forestry Examination , he was taken on as a forest assessor in the Hessian State Forest Service in 1953 and assigned to the Kassel District Forestry Office. During this time he began working for the Hessian Forestry Institution in Gießen. First, there seconded from 1959 then added, he served as Speaker for forest management in charge and forest value calculation.

From 1961 to 1966, Henne was head of the Königstein im Taunus forestry office .

On December 1, 1966, he was appointed to head the Hessian Forestry Institution as the successor to Otto Neuhaus. Henne's connection between forestry practice and forest management had a decisive influence in the following years on the further development of forest management as an instrument of operational planning and thus an important management instrument in forest policy. This ultimately led to the conception of a new Hessian forest management instruction. The new possibilities opened up by electronic data processing (EDP) were an important component early on . Hans-Joachim Weimann has been responsible for numerous program developments since 1961 , who became deputy director in 1976 and Hennes' successor as director of the forest management institute in 1986. Above all, the computer technology made it possible to link the individual stand data with the elements of the forest functions , the location and the profitability of a forest operation more and more and to make them usable in practice. Henne and his employees, to whom he always gave freedom, succeeded in developing the forest management procedure into a planning and control instrument for modern forest management. In the last five years of his service, he worked at full speed on the goal of equipping all of the 540 large public-sector forestry operations in Hesse with modern depots. Ecologically sound forest planning has always been very important to him.

August Henne put his findings down in numerous publications in specialist journals and was involved in forestry specialist committees, including the "Working Group on Forest Management" and as chairman of the "Working Group Condition Assessment and Planning". His achievements gained nationwide attention.

Chief Forestry Director August Henne remained active even after he retired in 1986 and now devoted himself intensively to researching Hessian forest history. In 1992 he was accepted at the Faculty of Forest Science and Forest Ecology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen with the dissertation The Community Forest in Hessen - Present and History. A forest policy study on Dr. forest. PhD . With the extensive work Hessische Forstliche Bibliographie 1956-1994 (1999) and the study Die Hessische Landesforstverwaltung as mirrored in their annual reports: 1950-1998 (approx. 2002) he presented two further standard works.

Hennes services to forestry and forest science have been honored with two technical awards: In 1985, the Georg-August-University of Goettingen honored him with the Heinrich Christian Burckhardt medal , and in 1991 awarded him the Georg Ludwig Hartig Foundation the Georg-Ludwig Hartig Prize for his life's work.

In addition to his forestry activities, Henne was also involved as a Rotarian and was President of the Rotary Club of Giessen in 1981/82.

Chief Forest Director a. D. Dr. forest. August Henne died on October 10, 2006 at the age of 85. He should not be confused with the Swiss forest scientist of the same name.
