August Ludwig Hülsen (born May 3, 1765 in Aken ; † September 24, 1809 in Stechow ; pseudonym Hegekern ) was a German philosopher of early Romanticism and a teacher .

Hülsen had contact with the early romantics, was also tutor to Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué , whom he made familiar with their theories. He was highly praised by Friedrich Schlegel . Philosophically, Hülsen represented a form of idealism that, as a critic of Immanuel Kant , brought him close to Johann Gottlieb Fichte . Politically, he distinguished himself from the nationally understood Middle Ages enthusiasm of the romantics. One can see slight anarchist tendencies in him. Later he dealt with theories of magnetism .
