August Schaper

August Schaper (born February 18, 1840 in Alfeld (Leine) , † February 18, 1920 in Hildesheim ) was a German organ builder who mainly worked in the diocese of Hildesheim .

life and work

August Schaper was born as the son of the organ builder Heinrich Schaper . With him he learned organ building from around 1854 to 1858 and took over its workshop around 1877. While his father built mechanical grinding chests in the traditional way , August Schaper introduced the cone chests to the company . In addition to his new buildings, there are extensions, rescheduling and numerous repair and maintenance work. Schaper worked as an organ builder until 1919 and died in 1920 on his 80th birthday.
