August Grandics, the eternal bachelor, is a bus driver with body and soul. The wedding party is up to mischief in Casino Baden, where Sonja, who later becomes August's friend, loses her money and tries to withdraw money from her account with her credit card, but the limit has been exhausted. Now August, who is waiting in the auditorium, and Sonja start a conversation. Then he chauffeurs the high-spirited company by bus, which is too much for August. He gets sick and only Sonja takes care of him and then continues the journey. In the hospital waiting room , August is informed about angina pectoris by an elderly lady and after the doctor has examined him with an ultrasound, the doctor says that August has a slight heart failure and is silent about the true condition. August lives with his "greedy" relatives, the Salchers, but has a bad relationship with them. The doctor is a good friend of the Salchers, so he tells them the truth about August's health. In his relatives' house, August only has a damp basement room as an apartment, Frieda and Alois Salcher talk in front of his room about his poor condition and about his severance payment, which the greedy Salchers are after. August has overheard this and behaves morosely and looks at souvenir photos. Soon afterwards the boss of his bus company sends him into retirement and he receives a severance payment of 20,000 euros. August quickly makes friends with Michael, a new chauffeur and August's successor. Meanwhile, the Salchers negotiate with the doctor about the planned wellness center that they want to finance with August's severance payment.
Sonja also has problems in life. Her boyfriend is the Yugoslav Leo, who is staying illegally with Sonja. He and you buy and sell cars to make money. The head of the car dealership cheats on Sonja by only giving her four type certificates, even though she paid for five cars. Now Sonja and Leo insist that the boss give them back the money that he makes with fake US dollars . Only in the exchange office, when she wants to change the dollars into euros, is the counterfeit money exposed and the officer asks Sonja for ID. At home Leo plays with a Playstation and does not listen to Sonja's admonitions. When the police enter the apartment, they recognize Leo's expired visa and arrest him. Sonja also announces that she is pregnant by Leo.
August does not know what to do with the severance payment and stays with Michael in bars where August is desired by the ladies and spends the money in this way. Then August and Michael go to Casino Baden and gamble away all the money. The Salchers notice August's absence at home and go looking for August that night, whereupon they find him furiously in the casino and August unintentionally cracks the jackpot at the machines and wins one million euros. He decides to manage all the money himself and wants to bequeath it to a fictional child for the time being. Frieda Salcher now demands from daughter Claudia that she should marry “Uncle August”, which of course she refuses and, at the mother's request, has to dress up and bring him breakfast to bed. Meanwhile, August goes straight out of the cellar through the window with the money.
Michael and August look around the Internet for a woman for August, which August disagrees with. He buys an old motor home, which is his new apartment. When looking for a woman, he is planning an advertisement for the newspaper. When Sonja wants to have the child aborted, she reads August's ad and decides to meet with him. Sonja and August now meet in the restaurant of a posh hotel, where they get to know each other better and August has the wish for a son. Sonja, however, hides her circumstances and pregnancy and drinks whiskey with August. You spend the night in the hotel and in the morning August can't remember anything and Sonja fakes August had a child. August leads Sonja home and August takes a look at her apartment.
The Salchers hire a private detective who is also a crime writer on August. Alois Salcher tries to reach August on his cell phone, but August does not answer. Frieda tricked August by using the detective's cell phone. She can talk to August, but he reacts negatively. He is in the mobile home and camps in the country. The detective also looks around in August's basement room and is intrusive towards Frieda. Meanwhile, two friends of Leo join Sonja, to whom he still owes 4,000 euros. They demand a cash reserve from Sonja, but she gives them the fake dollar bills. When Sonja August calls, they meet and she announces the pregnancy. At the notary, August determines that the unborn child will inherit his money and draws up the will. When he brings Sonja home, she sees Leo's friends in the street mirror who have come back and spontaneously persuades August to go away to escape them. Later she tries to call Leo, but his other friend, with whom he also has a child, answers.
August and Sonja camp by the stream and sleep together in the mobile home. Then they travel to Italy and buy a classy car, caravan and things for the child. You record the experiences with a video camera. But Leo now reports on August's cell phone, who wants to speak to Sonja, whereupon August suffers a heart attack. In the hospital he confesses his heart disease to Sonja and he has to be pushed in a wheelchair. On the way back Sonja August confesses her love for him and that she is pregnant by Leo, but August rules benevolently. August now introduces his relatives to Sonja. The Salchers react viciously to August's last will and want to usurp the million and incapacitate August. The situation escalates and August willfully destroys the furnishings in the dining room. The police arrest him and send him to a mental hospital . The Salchers want to reverse August's will, but this fails due to the lack of medical reports. In the psychiatric ward, August is locked in a barred bed and the doctors do not take his statements seriously and refuse to let him out. In the meantime, Michael has announced that he will secretly free August by disguising himself as a carer. He escapes with August on the bus in which Sonja is waiting. You are going to go to Italy. Sonja goes into labor and Michael helps deliver the child on the bus. It's a boy. Meanwhile, August dies of a fatal heart attack.
A few years later, Sonja lives with her young son in Italy and shows him the video she made of his alleged father.

The film was produced by the Austrian company Lisa Film on behalf of ORF . The shooting took place in Baden , Reichenau an der Rax and Friuli in summer 2002. The result was presented on December 6, 2002 in Casino Baden. The television premiere was on December 28th at 8.15 p.m. on ORF 2 .
