August Julius Heinrich von Oppell (born March 12, 1827 in Wetzlar , † November 1, 1909 in Berlin ) was Prussian general of the infantry and most recently the commander of the 2nd Guard Infantry Division .

Life

His parents were the captain and company commander in the 3rd Rifle Division, Karl Friedrich Arthur von Oppell (1799–1841) and his first wife Agnes Karoline Henriette, née von Oetinger (1801–1836).

Career

He went to Potsdam as a cadet on September 1, 1839 and from there to Berlin as a cadet on August 9, 1841 . He then came to the Leibpage of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. On July 4, 1844, he was then aggregated on foot to July 4, 1844 as a second lieutenant in the 1st Guards Regiment , on April 19, 1846 he was then over the Budget classified. From September 23, 1847 to September 30, 1848, assigned as an adjutant in the combined guard reserve battalion. On May 29, 1848, he came into the budget of the 1st Guards Regiment on foot. From March 1, 1852 to June 30, 1852 he was a teacher at the division school in Potsdam. He then became adjutant of the training infantry battalion on May 21, 1854. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on June 14, 1856, transferred to the commandant's office in Berlin as adjutant on March 7, 1857 and promoted to captain there on May 2, 1858. He was released from his command on June 14, 1859 and returned to the Guard Regiment. There he was appointed chief of the 9th Company on August 8, 1860. During the German War of 1866 he fought at Thrush , Königinhof and Königgrätz . During the period from July 3 to September 14, 1866 he was the leader of the fusilier battalion of the 1st Guards Regiment on foot, and on July 24, 1866 he was promoted to major and on September 20, 1866 for the campaign the crowns Order III. He was commissioned on July 14, 1877 with the leadership of the 30th Infantry Brigade and a la suite of the 2nd Guards Regiment. On October 18, 1877 he was confirmed as commander and was promoted to major general. On January 18, 1880, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, Second Class with Oak Leaves, and then on December 27, 1881, he was transferred to the 34th Infantry Brigade as commander. There he was entrusted with the leadership of the 2nd Guard Infantry Division on March 10, 1883 and promoted to Lieutenant General on May 15, 1883 and at the same time confirmed as commander. On January 18, 1885, he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle. On 18 January 1887, he was then with board for discussion identified and awarded the Red Eagle, First Class with oak leaves. On August 18, 1895, he was given the character of General of the Infantry, and he was also given permission to wear the uniform of the 1st Guard Regiment. Oppell married Luise Mathilde Theodora von Koenemann (1844-1908) in Warlitz on May 11, 1866. The couple had several children:
