August von Sachsen-Weißenfels (1650–1674)

August von Sachsen-Weißenfels (born December 3, 1650 in Halle ; † August 11, 1674 ibid) was a born prince and (titular) duke of Saxony-Weißenfels and provost of Magdeburg and came from a sideline of the Albertine Wettins . To distinguish himself from his father, he is also called August the Younger .

family

August was the second son of Duke August von Sachsen-Weißenfels and his first wife Anna Maria von Mecklenburg-Schwerin , daughter of Duke Adolf Friedrich I von Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Life

Prince August was admitted to the Fruitful Society in 1659 by his father, who was its head . He was given the company name of the cautious . Furthermore, at the instigation of his father, who was also Archbishop of Magdeburg, he was elected provost of this archbishopric by the cathedral chapter of the Primary and Erbstiftskirche at the age of only ten . After his death, the office went to his brother Heinrich .

He died on August 11, 1674 at the age of 23 in Halle and was buried in the princely crypt of the Weißenfels castle church .

Marriage and offspring

His only marriage was on August 25, 1673 in Halle with Charlotte von Hessen-Eschwege , the daughter of Landgrave Friedrich of Hessen-Eschwege from his marriage to Eleonore Katharine von Pfalz-Zweibrücken-Kleeburg , daughter of Duke Johann Casimir von Pfalz-Zweibrücken- Kleeburg . After August's death, his widow married Count Johann Adolf zu Bentheim-Tecklenburg , from whom she later divorced.

August and Charlotte's only child together died at birth:
