August Bernhard Heinrich Prince von Schoenaich-Carolath (born August 20, 1822 in Saabor , Lower Silesia , † October 16, 1899 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian mining engineer, most recently mining captain and director of the Dortmund Upper Mining Office . He comes from the noble family Schoenaich-Carolath .

Origin and family

Prince August von Schoenaich-Carolath was the third son of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Carl von Schoenaich-Carolath, Royal Prussian major and district administrator of the Grünberg district in Silesia (1790-1859) and the Caroline Princess Reuss-Schleiz-Köstritz (1820-1878), born. Prince August Schoenaich-Carolath married Princess Emma zu Salm-Horstmar on July 29, 1857 in Coesfeld (born December 13, 1823 in Coesfeld; † May 19, 1898 in Potsdam ) daughter of Prince Friedrich zu Salm-Horstmar, Wildgrave and Rhine Count, and the Countess Elisabeth zu Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim .

The couple had a son, Prince Ferdinand Friedrich Otto Heinrich Karl Eduard Martin, who was born in Tarnowitz on April 16, 1858 and died in Oeynhausen on June 22, 1941 , of Kgl. Prussian Privy Councilor and Captain of the Landwehr a. D. was.

Working life

August Schoenaich-Carolath obtained his school-leaving certificate at the Cöllnisches Gymnasium in Berlin on September 23, 1841 , was accepted as a mining enthusiast on March 6, 1842 and then drove to pits in the Waldenburger Revier , at the same time attended the Waldenburger Bergschule and became after the so-called trial year appointed mining inspector on November 10, 1843 .

On June 14, 1863, he was appointed miner captain and director of the Dortmund mining authority . He held these positions until June 30, 1888, i.e. twenty-four years. By rheumatic sufferings he was then forced to board to go. He lived in Potsdam until his death.

Services

The longstanding work of August Schoenaich-Carolath at the head of the Dortmund Oberbergamt was of great importance for mining in the Ruhr area . August Schoenaich was directly involved in the great upswing that the mining industry experienced there between 1864 and 1888 through tireless zeal for work, personal stimulation and benevolent support.

August Schoenaich-Carolath was a member of the German Geological Society and founder of the German Miners' Days and the Association of Technical Mining Officials in the Dortmund District Mining Authority.
