Augustin Kubizek

Augustin Kubizek (born October 15, 1918 in Vienna ; † March 24, 2009 there ) was an Austrian composer and musicologist .

Life

Augustin Kubizek was the eldest of August Kubizek's three sons , who also embarked on a musical career (see Kubizek ). He was married to cellist and viol player Elli Lewinsky for 27 years. Their children, Gabriele Huss, Leonhard Kubizek (Pat Leonhard), Michael Kubizek and Maria Bader-Kubizek, all also worked as musicians. T. still today. His daughter Isabella from his first marriage became a doctor. His nephew was the musician Wolfgang R. Kubizek .

Augustin Kubizek attended the Stiftgymnasium Seitenstetten and graduated in 1937 as a primary school teacher at the Episcopal Teachers' College in Linz .

He received his musical training at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Ferdinand Grossmann in singing, as well as at the Vienna University of Music with Alfred Uhl in composition and with Hans Swarowsky in orchestral and choral conducting. Courses with Paul Hindemith , Johann Nepomuk David and Herbert von Karajan rounded off his studies.

Augustin Kubizek began his professional career as a primary and secondary school teacher in Upper Austria , where he worked from 1946 to 1954. From 1956 he had a teaching position at the Vienna Academy of Music before he as a professor of there 1978-1985 TONSATZLEHRE and composition worked.

He was also a member of the board of the Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers (Copyright Society ) and board member of the Austrian Association of Composers.

In practice, he worked as the founder, leader or conductor of numerous important choirs and ensembles, e. B. the Wiener Schütz - Kantorei and worked as a juror in music competitions.

Kubizek was one of the central figures of Austrian musical life in the second half of the twentieth century, not only because of his compositional work, but also because of his commitment to Austrian music institutions and his many years of educational activity.

He was buried at the Mauer cemetery (group 6, row 3, number 13) in Vienna.

As a composer Kubizek was mainly connected to vocal music . His extensive work includes songs, masses and motets , but also instrumental compositions.
