Aurèle Robert , (born December 18, 1805 in Les Eplatures , † December 21, 1871 in Ried ob Biel ) was a Swiss painter .

Robert was the younger brother of Léopold Robert , the father of Paul Robert and the grandfather of Théophile Robert , Philippe Robert and Paul-André Robert , who were also painters.

From 1817 to 1819 Robert completed an apprenticeship as a watch case engraver . In 1822 he moved to Rome and worked there under the guidance of his brother Léopold. In 1832 he followed him to Venice , where he stayed until his suicide in 1835 and then returned to Switzerland. Stays in Paris and Venice followed. In 1849 he married Julie Schneider. In 1853 the family bought the "Unteres Ried" estate above Biel / Bienne.

In the course of his career, Robert devoted himself to portrait, genre and architectural painting.

In the New Museum Biel (until 2011 Museum Neuhaus ) pictures of the 3000 works of the Robert Foundation are on display.
